Day Two: 2018 JITG Music Festival Miami

Day Two at the JITG Music Festival there was right away a noticeable amount of more jazz goers than on Saturday. Maybe they were here for the early afternoon churching of Tasha Cobbs Leonard, or perhaps it was Mrs. Anita Baker they were waiting for; who knows. On day two there were so many great performers that would hit the stage from the renowned Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Pieces of a Dream, Avery Sunshine, Walter Beasley, none other than Anita Baker, Joe, and bringing the 90’s was Biz Markie, Kid ‘N Play, Trick Daddy, and Salt-N-Pepa with Spinderella.

Hitting the stage first was Mrs. Tasha Cobbs Leonard and let me say she took us to church with her amazing voice. She sang favorites likes Break every chain, Praise on It, I will follow and many more of her amazing hits. The crowds were on their feet given God all the praises he deserved. The weather was warm, sunny, and we were stomping the enemy under our feet. I give a round of applause to Tasha Cobbs for the amazing performance that she brought to this years 2018 JITG Music Festival. Thank you, Tasha.

Up next was Pieces of a Dream playing sweet jazzy tunes to today’s modern songs and as I say, back in the days greatest hits from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Joining them on the stage later in the performance would be the jazzy songstress Avery Sunshine. She was greeted to the stage with a warm welcome. As I sat back and listened to the sound of her soulful voice it took me back down memory lane with some other famous jazz singers such as Abbey Lincoln, Billy Holiday, Betty Carter, and Nina Simone just to name a few. Loving to sit in my chair and relax to her voice made me really enjoy how Sunday was starting out; hats off you both of your groups.

Walter Beasley played excellent, the smooth rhythmic sounds of jazz continued as he hit the stage and played a few of his and the audience favorites. There was no shortage in music at this festival and neither was the applauds and smiles as Walter Beasley played. Crowd goers sang along with the band as many of the also danced in the isles with love ones they came with or others they met alone they way; jazz music never felt so good.

Now, the moment that I think many, and I mean many people had been waiting for all night, was here Mrs. Anita Baker. It was a standing ovation in JITG, she graced the stage with her presence wearing an all red beautiful tailored dress, and hair was short and stylish. As she walked the stage she immediately thanked her fans, the band, the backup singers, and any other stage workers with a bow to them; very elegant and classy of her. Anita Baker can be seen this year on her farewell tour, so be sure you check your local listings to see when she will be in or around your area. Mrs. Baker did an awesome job with all the songs that she performed on Sunday night it was unforgettable. Thank you, Mrs. Anita Baker, for your grace, elegance, passion, drive, and vocals you be blessed.

Then we have the sweet sounds of Joe mesmerizing the crowds and getting everyone all into their feelings.             Joe has does what he does always; greets the crowd and comes right off the stage as he is performing and into the crowds. Security is making sure he is guarded and protected as he put on an amazing show sharing his vocals and his body with the first few rows of the festival. There was no short supply of Joe, he came thru and did his thing and I thank you.

This year’s bringing the 90’s we have up next Biz Markie of course everyone also knows him as the human beatbox. Biz Markie comes on and does a few oldies for us and then he starts to belch out words that seems like he’s trying to actually sing…why? Well I understand him because I have known for years that’s Biz Markie; has tried and wants to sing, but the words just don’t come out quite right. So many people at the festival was at that point, booing him off the stage and saying No! No! for my husband and I we new the deal. It was like watching a little teenage girl singing in the shower and got caught trying to sing and her little petty brother and being told to shut up. Well my words to Biz Markie, you keep doing you Boo!

Our next 90’s was Kid ‘N Play, you would not believe how much energy that these two brought to the stage. People were back onto their feet jumping to the beat and had forgotten about the last act—sorry. Kid ‘N Play rock the stage with their crazy dance moves and their fast and cool rap, they even went into a rap battle against each other—very awesome I must say so. They did crack a joke saying, “Boy we are tired as hell.” The crowd laughs I could see how all that running and jumping around could make anyone tired when you’re their age. They put on an excellent show and I really enjoyed it, thank you Kid ‘N Play.

Trick Daddy do I need to say any more? I guess I will it’s only fair to the readers. Hitting the stage was your 90’s rapper, the crowd went wild. The crowds sang and rapped along to the verses of his music leaving me to just sit back and guise at the crowd. They knew word for word seems like before he was going to say it. They were true and loyal fans, I did not know this Trick Daddy so for me I was on the outside looking in at what all the fuss was about, and from what I saw he had a loyal fan base. Keep up the work Trick Daddy.

Our last act of the night with over thirty years working in this music industry Salt-N-Pepa, with Spinderella. I was so happy when they grace the stage with their presence. It was like a little girl getting a Christmas gift early and opening it; this was the final act of the night that I wanted to see. I loved listening to Salt-N-Pepa when I was growing up, because as a kid in my home it was always church, church, church so when school came, and I could listen to music; that’s where it was at I fell in love with these ladies. They came to the stage all grown and sexy, singing all the greatest hit and apologizing to all the women they got in trouble with their provocative songs. All I got to say to that is, no worries ladies you were doing sex education. Spinderella had all the great beats as usually; Salt and Pep had all the great moves and rhymes. All three ladies and their dancers did their thing on stage they came out to entertain us and that’s just what they did. I feel that they brought a hell of a show ladies keep up the work and I look forward to seeing more years ahead. God bless you all!

Jazz In The Garden Music Festival Miami Florida

The 2018 Jazz  in the Garden Music Festival started with a bang from a local artist A. Randolph, singing his own tunes and some hits from back in the days; making everyone get up onto their feet and jump around. Warming the crowds up for all that was to come. A. Randolph would continue to play onset, in between acts getting us ready for the next performer, it was like every time he hit the stage he got better and better hyping up the crowds. Overall I would have to say hats off to A. Randolph at this years JITG Music Festival.

Our next performer was Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Man these brothers could play the horn, and trombones; they did not disappoint at any means. Talk about blowing a trombone until you fall out, this man could play like our most prolific players of the past; Al Grey and J J Johnson just to name a few. It was a real treat to hear the brass sound of the trumpet and the trombone it was electrifying and it shows throughout the crowds. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue thank you for gracing us with your presence.

Up next we have none other than Smokey Robinson, smooth as he always is. He approach the stage wearing an all red suit. He had this red shirt underneath that exposed his chest just enough to tempt the ladies into temptation of lust and desire. I could hear the women from the back of me screaming ” Sing it Smokey” & ” Yes, yes Smokey” as they sing along with him as he sing many of his greatest hit from Tears of a Clown, Ooo baby bay, You really Got a Hold on Me and many more. The crowds were standing throughout his performance as they belched out his tunes. Smokey Robinson’s went on to be more daring as to bring onto the stage two beautiful music goers that were more than eager to greet him with a slow sultry dance then embraced him with a hug. They were used to edged the crowd on even more as he ended out his night. All in all Smokey Robinson you get an A+ on my report card.

Fantasia, Fantasia, Fantasia need I say no more. This young lady kept it as real as it comes on last night stage; no wonder she has “Fan” in her name. The fans went wild last night as she embraced the stage with her presence. Right out the gate, she lets you know she is grown, and not playing games, that she is an adult, and that all games have been placed aside. Now keep in mind I was not a Fantasia fan to say the least, I was not hating on her either, I just really hadn’t heard that much of her music to really care either way. There was only one song I knew and enjoyed and that was about it, but last night I was about to give her a chance. So I was so impressed when she opened her mouth and started singing. She song, songs from back in the days and gave tribute to Tina Turner. The most important part of Fantasia show to me was when she took the time to HONOR GOD and ask if there were any that has not accepted Christ as your savior; now was the time. Fantasia for that you will now always have a new FAN.

Chaka Khan, Chaka WHAT? What a totally and utter mess on last night. I would prefer that poor little Chaka Khan would have not come out on stage looking and definitely not sounding or in her case not sounding like she did last night at the JITG Music Festival. It was clear to see that IMMEDIATELY as she hit the stage and tried to open her mouth and nothing came out but screeching sounds; everyone starting packing up. When she stood there like a deer in headlights with nowhere to go and could not remember the words to her own songs; people started packing up When she played with her hair more than singing, people were leaving the stadium, when she walked as if she was staggering across the stage at times people were already telling of stories of how this wasn’t the first time she has come on the under the influence. Chaka Khan if it’s rehab you need by all means take it, it does no justice to try and perform and your backup singers are the ones we are paying to unfair. To the backup singers, thank you for putting up with the nonsense of the entertainment business and covering for the seem to be under the influence, late running, and sometimes not so nice bosses; we thank you. As for Chaka Khan and her performance, it left many dissatisfied and broken hearted to see her that way. Get better Chaka Khan I am rooting for you.

To all the performers Thank you for entertaining me, I really enjoyed your music. Look for my next blog on part two performers.

Forgiveness is Just a Word People Say!!!

Forgiveness were are you? Some people know not of the word, they say they do, they say they have forgiven, but in reality they are just as broken as the lies they tell to your face.

Let me tell you a story about a Church, a place that is so caught up in image; keep in mind am not judging, am not telling you what I heard, am telling you what I know. This church was so caught up in numbers, caught up in how big they could get the audience, which type of people they could preach or teach to without being offensive, a church that was to scared to deal with real issues that surrounded everyday life, a church that condemned ME.

Luke 6:37 (ESV)- “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;

Matthew 7:1-5 (ESV) “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

Okay, Okay I could go on and on with scriptures about judgement and condemnation, however I choose not too. When you have a person tell you that they forgive you then say that they don’t approve of a novel you have written and neither does the church–you thank God for the Holy Spirit for keeping you grounded and not saying nothing.

First and foremost I did not write my novel for the person(s)  that condemned me at that church (The Crossing in Brandon, FL), I wrote my novel for me, for others like me that could relate and see themselves as survivors. If my book offended your congregation….I will not apologize, I will not suppress what is happening to thousands of children a day, I will not lay down and not be heard, I will FORGIVE YOU of your pettiness, of your condemnation that you brought against me, I will forgive you of how you called me demonic for writing such novel. How dare you pastors nowadays think they are the only ones that hear from God? If that was the case we would all be in trouble–because we are the flock following blindly after our teacher(s).

FORGIVENESS; don’t say it, don’t use it if you really don’t mean it, don’t let it slip out your mouth because you think I want to hear it……I don’t. I am telling you All that I forgive you of your IGNORANCE.  You are forgiven and I mean it, I look beyond the pettiness, and feel sorry for the ones that are following you blindly. I hope this message cause you to look at the way you are raising your flock and ask God to deliver you all from what’s beneath the surface and into your hearts.

The real tragic to this story was this church lost three members that were actively involved in the church and doing the work of God. Thanks for reading my novel or pages of it, it lets me see how narrow minded church people can be, it lets me see how you can take an innocent fragile scene as rape and turn it around and say that, that child will grow up to be a lesbian/gay….how dare you!! You are weak, sick, and closed minded people. Furthermore this is the real kicker the book was written and published in the state of NY and the author (me) moved to FL three years later, there happen to be names that were the similiar as the congregation and of course the church did not like that so it was said.

Well that’s why we have disclaimers, I don’t know you, I lived many states away, and if you are feeling convicted in your spirit maybe you need to deal with your demons from the past instead of finding a way to chastise me about my novel; just saying. So I hope this little story peaked you interest enough to FORGIVE someone, everyone, or yourself before it’s too late; please really mean it!!

Are You Multiplying What’s In The Kingdom

This past Sunday I had the pleasure of listening to a guest speaker at my Church Tracey Mitchell. The important thing that stood out from this profound message were “Success is far more difficult than struggle”. She states so many of us are always asking God for more, when you can’t even mange what is already in your hand. Because during your season of struggle the only person that you have to take care of; is you. Your money, your time, your health, your wealth. But when you step into the arena of success you are not just depending on opening the door for yourself ; now you have to open the door for someone else. You have to manage their payroll, you don’t only have to worry about your family, but you have to worry about theirs. So if we are struggling to manage seasons that are not successful then why should we pray for God to enlarge our order if we can’t manage what is in our now.

God is Grace he gives us warm up moments on the side stage, before he ever places us on the main stage. We can always learn from our seasons of dry/struggle/desert because what you learn from those seasons prepare for seasons of increase. “There’s a part of you that wants more but also fears increase. God told Moses to confront what you fear. Industrious  people produce Vision-less people consume.  God is taking your dream and is placing it on steroids.”

God is about to stretch your increase and the devil /enemy will make you look as if your increase is nothing or little and try to little your faith in increase. The purpose of increase in not to give us more, but to advance the Kingdom of God. We get so happy from what we catch from the kingdom but we never make yardage for it. The Lord is teaching us how to be receivers, but then he is going to teach us how to be a MULTIPLIER. Receiving without multiplying equals failure. If we are constantly receiving blessings from the Lord and are not using our blessing, gifts,  to help benefit others then it has been a failure, example of this is Sampson — he didn’t manage himself, he didn’t understand when the holly spirit left him; therefore he was robbed of his strength.

You will never experience increase without conflict. There is something in every battle you should walk away with to bring with you into your next season. Every season you should leave the battle with an upgrade in your arsenal. This is very important for the battle that we fight against the enemy. What you pick up in this season will equip you with something better for the next season. As your anointing increases so will your critics. Tracey states  “I am about to double down on your anointing” as the crowd applaud.

Increase demands you see yourself differently. You can’t suddenly expect to shift into a new season and have no sounds or tremors. Meaning there will always be some bumps in the road when you are making a change to dig deeper and choose God over evil. The enemy does not like this and there will be trials and tribulations, but don’t worry you have a built up arsenal and you are not afraid to use them, you are the head and not the tail. When you step into this new season there are people who will bet against your sustainability of the new you, don’t you worry you know God has you and you will not fail.

Pray that Jesus continue to guide your path and remember are you Multiplying what Jesus have given you or are you just a Receiver?

Being Grateful for The Little Things!!

A picture may say a thousand words, but just in that moment the feeling of love, the feeling of hopefulness, the feeling of happiness, gratefulness for all that God has blessed you with. When I came back home and started to think about my missionary visit to Haiti, I was filled with different kinds of emotions. First and foremost I created a bond that can never be broken with amazing people over in Haiti. I will forever have a Haiti family, forever Haiti will be my second home. The people are so kind, so happy, so welcoming, very hard working.

As I prepare myself to do as much as possible, in the time constraints that we have during our mission I can’t help but feel sadden to see the living conditions of the people in Haiti, the cooking conditions, the health or lack of healthcare for the people of Haiti in the countryside. Still with all these things against them they are GRATEFUL. Just for the little things that we did or said, such as a smile, a hug, a craft activity that we did during the day with the women, young girls, and all other children that attended vacation bible school.

The Haitian community was GRATEFUL for the snack that was provided during VBS, for the vision clinic that we provided, the medical clinic that provide so much needed care in Haiti. There were so many children with open wounds from walking in feces and contaminated water. For me and my team of doctors to be able to dress the wounds made me feel blessed and humble. I felt like God has really sent me where he wanted me to go and I was so glad I accepted the challenge.

Shoes that grow were also given to every child, feeling absolutely humble that I could be apart of something like this; was amazing. Having each child receive shoes this can very well be the start of decreasing infections in children, decreasing injury in children’s feet, and decreasing open wounds on feet & legs. The children were so GRATEFUL to receive backpack for back to school. These backpacks weren’t just your regular backpacks, these were filled with school supplies for the children to get a head start on school.

In Haiti there is this saying “There is always room for one more.” I can hear that in my head as I sit and type the words on the screen. I can hear our friend Wilnot saying it and smiling as we all pile up on the back of the truck; stock with supplies, and anywhere from ten to twelve people. You don’t have to worry we have an EXCELLENT driver, that knows the lay of the land before and after the rain. It doesn’t matter if it’s on the back of trucks in Haiti or on the back of a motorcycle, there is always room for one more. Motorcycles are a popular mode of transportation in Haiti due to the unpaved roads, ditches, holes, mountainous terrains, and steep slopes. On motorcycles, we would see up to six people on one bike, making their daily trips to the market, to the river to take a bath, do laundry, or to work in their own garden if they have one.

As I watched the women of Haiti cook in very harsh conditions my heart felt sad. As a person that knows the dangers of what the women were exposing themselves to, I had wished I could do more.  How could I do more, I am just one person, one women, one missionary; for now I will be grateful that God has bless me with the opportunity to be with the women of Haiti. The women were so happy to greet us and show us how their culture prepare meals. It was so awesome to see the chicken being prepared in the big cast iron pot under the three stones and wood fire. Being GRATEFUL seeing the rice and spices being freshly mixed and prepared the same way, but in another room next door.

Coming home and looking back on my trip I feel like telling the world about my experiences. Sure this short story doesn’t scratch the surface of what I experienced and what was given to me by the people of Haiti. I was given so much, a new found appreciation on life. When I look at what people are complaining about; that had not lost a home to a hurricane, or a natural disaster, but just your normal complaining people I feel sad, very sad, but GRATEFUL all at the same time because I am blessed to have the things that so many people take for granted.

The things that people take for granted until they don’t have to live without it, can be something as simple as their home. There are so many people in Haiti living up to nine people in a two bedroom home. When I say home it consist of a dirt floor, no electric, no plumbing, no communication, no water (unless there is a nearby well & someone can fetch water), no beds or maybe one or two, and a straw roof (not tin, some people try to work or get sponsored in order to receive a tin roof). Other things that are taken for granted is having healthcare in the U.S. Yes, for some people it may not be the best healthcare for the individual, but they have healthcare and are able to get services when needed unlike many, many Haitians.

We as Americans don’t think about how blessed we are often enough, we hardly greet people we don’t even know, as opposed to Haitian’s love to greet and welcome you with a smile. We leave the water on while brushing our teeth, taking long and excessive showers not thinking about how blessed we are to have clean water, and drinkable water. We think that we need all the new and expensive cars, home, jewelry, shoes, and clothing in reality none of that matters if you are not first and foremost giving God the honor and praises he deserved for blessing you with all the things that you do have. The things that you have are because of him Jesus Christ and none other. So I ask you next time you don’t have something that you think you deserve….think again and be GRATEFUL for the little things in life.

Be GRATEFUL for the little things, peanut butter sandwich, love, laughter, friends (stateside & faraway), music, long truck rides, prayer and the breath of life.

I Think I Can…I Think I Can….

It’s funny how you can read someone’s else’s blog and be inspired to keep on blogging. It doesn’t really matter what you are blogging about as long as you are letting your fingers do the walking. The sound of your fingers hitting the keyboard, every so often hitting the back space for correction, making sure your words are grammatically correct thank God for the inspiration.

I think I can….I think I can is what am saying tonight to the thought that comes to me as I write here on my blog site. The thoughts that consume me of doing my best and never looking back. Thought that God has made me great in his image, therefore I am beautiful. I tell myself with this beauty I will protect it at all cost, because it doesn’t belong to me, it’s the property of another man’s, a man that is holy, holy, holy; a man that is God. For him I live and for him I die, what an Awesome God we serve or maybe it’s just me serving him all by myself. It’s okay the benefits are just as Awesome as he is if you just keep going.

I think I can…I think I can is what am saying tonight to the thought that comes to me as I read what I have written on my blog. Boy this is some serious stuff, but still consume with thoughts; thoughts of happiness that can never be broken no matter what I might go thru throughout my life, no matter what doors are open or shut, no matter what good days I have or bad days, I will still be ME. I will still be what God has intended me to be, what he has intended me to do, what he has intended me to tell others; about his love.

I KNOW I CAN….I KNOW I CAN do, say, ask, send me and I will go Father God, where your people are in need of help. Where there is no light in a dark place, send me I will go. Ask me and I will do it. Say what your will is and it shall be done Lord. It’s funny how some think we only exist because of the Big Bang Theory, that’s fine if that’s what you believe, I just believe that there is so much more to that AMAZING, AWESOME, WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL, HOLY, HALLELUJAH & OUTRAGEOUS BANG!!!

Daily Dose of Inspiration – Take Action — Be Inspired..!!

It’s fun to dream, to think about what you would like to do someday. But that someday part is a real problem. As long as you see your dream as occurring someday, it’s not going to happen for you. Every person who has ever achieved a dream has done so by changing that dream from someday […]

Swimming, Sinking, and Sharks are around me!!!

Today was a rough day, you know one of those days where you just feel like ugh!! You try to work on things that need to get done, however life gives you no energy. You make important calls in hope’s that someone on the other end will answer. You send out important emails, that you hope will be returned.

Today was a rough day, you know the kind that makes you want to take a long soak in your jacuzzi tub. You makes calls to love ones, just to make sure they are still alive and well. You feel like you’re drowning without a life guard around.

You feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You have to be responsible for everything, anything, and anyone that evolves around you. Can life give you a break, is Jesus where you left him.

You left him in your prayer closet, why don’t you bring him out and talk to him. Great idea; Dear Jesus it’s me, your child. I am calling on you for all my needs. I submit to you and give you all I have to give. Dear Jesus I love you, what can I do for you today? You promised not to put more on me than I can bear, and at this moment I have reached my limit.

I can no longer swim, please throw me a life line. While waiting for the life line I will give you thanks, the honor, the glory, and praise because I know you have already handled the situation.

Today is not the day, but Jesus will have his way. You will not sink, you will be saved and to him, shall be the praise. So if you ever feel like a day is not your day, count your blessing, look around, take a deep breath and keep your head off the ground because my God has done everything already when he sent his son to die on the cross for you and I. So cheer up blessings and provisions are on there way.

They Grow So Fast…

They Grow So Fast….

Boy, it seems like it was yesterday that you were changing their diaper or putting them down for a nap, now you are helping them in deciding which college is the best fit for that long road ahead of them.  Thinking in your mind that all you could remember is your experience in college, all the hard work, all the studying, all the clinical you had to attend then you snap out of it. Keeping in mind now this is not you it’s your child, they want you there, but they don’t want you there. They want the independence of walking the campus themselves just a few feet in front of you asking the questions that they know that you would asking and looking back or over at you for the occasional approval. They grow up so fast, better not take your eye off of them because one minute your are tying their shoe the next minute you are being ask which outfit looks right. As you stroll down the hallways of the campus with your child on the way to the dorms you watch the eagerness in their eyes as they look on with the tour to see what lurks behind the college roommates dorm. Will there be a messy room or will it be clean? Shockingly the room was clean, the roommates offer information and your child is as eager as a kindergarten getting on the bus for the first time. Once all the information was given out verbally the tour leaves the room,  your child happy as can be tells you verbatim everything that was said inside the dorm, making sure not to skip a beat. You think to yourself God knew what you needed and he provided it; and as the day ended you and your family sat by the river and enjoyed the beautiful day the Lord made.

I am too dark with my writing for you Christians, what does that make me? Sorry, Oh wait I am not going to apologize for the dark writings in the soft pages of my matte novel I will not. I am an author, Yes a Christian author that has written a deep dark scary story that has made an uproar to the church. Read my disclaimer I knew not of any of you, when my novel was written & published; All I knew was God spoke to me. Yes God, the very being that so many Pastor’s, & Preacher’s claim speaks to them. All the Glory goes to God in writing my novel because #1 This will guide the mind of a person that has been through the same situation rather its male or female, it will allow them to talk to someone. #2 It will help others open a blind eye for a child that is getting molested or abused, for them to know the signs & symptoms so they can ask them about it an non threatening way. #3 If you are appalled by my writing, check your family history because down the line in your family some or many of the things may have happened and it’s time to address it now; the TRUTH hurts. #4 If a person has never been through the things in my book then May God reach out to you to help someone through Evangelism. Evangelism is where my heart is. So many church’s operate inside the four walls, you people that are in the four walls claim to be holier than thou. Come out and be disciples like God has called us to be, that’s what my novel is about and for anyone to judge it or me; I would be careful there is a God above that sits high and look low. I encourage EVERY one to read my novel “I Never Thought It Could Have Happen Book One: The Sisterhood” and think about the message it portrays not just a sleazy sex or violation scene.
I am a black, happy, married, mom of four children, grandmother of one, that is a Christian that loves the Lord Jesus Christ, that is not afraid to write about sex, murder, adultery, abuse, and whatever is covered in the Bible. If this is not for you, it’s not for you. Much Love!!
